Green Algae Pink Salmon
What is the difference between green algae and brown algae in my aquarium?
We have a Beta and have him in a 5 gallon tank. I am starting to get brown algae and was wondering what the difference is in the green and the brown algae and what is causing this?

PS We change about 30 percent of the water once a month. We have owned the fish 2 months now.
The main cause of the algae growth is that you're waiting too long between cleanings. You should do a cleaning that changes 15 to 20% of the water once a week. Another cause of excessive algae growth, (both green and brown) is too much direct sunlight. If the aquarium gets a lot of sun for even part of the day you should move it to a less exposed location.
