He didnt ask about gloves, he asked about wraps. There are two major theories, and for certain excercises they are EXTREMELY useful, but for others, they could actually hurt you. The main thing wraps help is by taking the stress off of your hands. many people use them because they feel like they can focus on their lifts without the added pain in their forearms for gripping. If you grip too hard, blood is sent to your forearms, and NOT your legs and whatever body part you were intending on working. sme experts swear that this makes you slightly weaker and your workous unnecessarily harder. For some excercises, they are absolutely necessary. For example, I would always use them for max deadlifts, as oftentimes your hands are the first to give out with heavy weight. However, if you are repping out, I would keep them off. I would do the same for powercleans, but often I feel that Wrist Wraps inhibit my movement cleans and clean and jerks, which may lead to injury if you get sloppy. I never use them for pullups because my back and arms give out long before my hands. I would also use them if you ever planned on doing front squats for your quads, as they really save alot of pain from your wrists (especially if you're not the most flexible person in the world. Also, I would NEVER buy gloves. It is much safer and you have much more control which leads to more stregnth if you can feel the bar well. If your hands hurt, or you dont have the greatest grip, you can buy chalk on the internet (like gymnasts or baseball pitchers use).
